Solar Star Projects
In January 2013, BHE Renewables announced its acquisition of the 586-megawatt Solar Star projects, consisting
of two co-located projects in Kern and Los Angeles counties in California, from SunPower Corporation.
Construction began in first quarter 2013, and was complete in 2015. The Solar
Star projects created approximately 650 jobs during construction and is estimated to generate more than $500 million in regional economic impact, the majority of which was recognized during construction. Southern California Edison purchases electricity from the projects under two long-term power purchase contracts. The projects have more than 1.7 million modules installed, cover approximately 3,200 acres and provide enough electricity equivalent to powering approximately 245,000 average California households.
Electricity generated from the projects displaces approximately 561,000 tons of CO
2 per year –
the equivalent of taking nearly 106,000 cars off the road annually.
